CHOP-Soar - Soar Autism Center

OVERVIEW OF CHOP-SOAR AUTISM CENTER

Where pediatric excellence meets play-based care for young learners

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and Soar Autism Center have come together to bring best-in-class autism care to families in the Philadelphia region. The collaboration – called CHOP-Soar Autism Center – joins teams of outpatient autism therapists with the expertise of a top-ranked pediatric hospital to fully support families following diagnosis through therapy.

WHAT WE PROVIDE

Comprehensive autism care under one roof

Each location offers speech, occupational, and behavioral therapy services for children through age 6 under one roof, providing integrated, in-center care during children’s most critical years of development.

Therapists at CHOP-Soar Autism Center can collaborate directly with your child’s medical team at CHOP or other providers to ensure your family receives coordinated, comprehensive care and support every step of the way.

OUR MISSION

Messages from our families to yours

“At CHOP, we are committed to delivering the best possible care for our patients, and we recognize that families in the autism community often struggle to access the services and therapy they need,” said Nathan J. Blum, MD, Chief of the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. “Our new partnership with SOAR is grounded in collaboration, allowing us to extend the reach of CHOP’s network in a new and innovative way. Whether it’s cutting-edge research from our Center for Autism Research or recently established Lurie Autism Institute, we know that bringing together knowledge and resources benefits all those touched by autism.”

“Our mission has always been to provide children with the most effective and compassionate care possible,” said Ian Goldstein, MD, MPH, Co-Founder and CEO of Soar Autism Center. “Partnering with CHOP allows us to elevate that mission, coupling Soar’s autism therapy services with CHOP’s unmatched clinical and research excellence.”

Frequently asked questions

What is your care model?
We offer naturalistic ABA therapy (ESDM-based), speech therapy (SLP), and occupational therapy (OT) – delivered in an integrated, play-based model.

What makes your program unique?
Our program uniquely combines the world-renowned medical expertise and research capabilities of CHOP with Soar’s proven, interdisciplinary therapy model. This allows for seamless integration of behavioral therapies (ABA, SLP, and OT) within the care center and specialized medical care coordination with CHOP or other providers.

What type of ABA therapy do you use?
Our ABA program is rooted in the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM). ESDM is a naturalistic developmental behavioral intervention that uses play and relationship-based routines rather than structured drills. It embeds learning into everyday activities and supports social communication, adaptive behavior, and cognitive skills.

How long will my child need to be in the program?
Every child’s journey is unique, but our philosophy is to invest in treatment early when the impact is most pronounced. Our goal is to help children “graduate” from intensive therapy by school age (5-7). Most children participate in treatment for ~2 years before graduating to the school system.

What does “graduation” or discharge look like?
Our goal is to transition each child into a full-time school setting in the least restrictive environment possible. Discharge readiness is indicated by steady improvements in assessment scores, independence with daily living skills, effective functional communication, and a reduction of challenging behaviors. As goals are met, therapy hours are gradually reduced to ensure a smooth transition.
